Education in Jersey

The Island values its children and young people, demonstrated not least by its top-class education system.

The Jersey Curriculum is designed to ensure children and young people grow and learn to become well-rounded citizens of the Island and the world, including offering excellent sports and leisure opportunities. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum in England but adapted to reflect the Island’s unique heritage and environment, and the needs of the local economy. This includes higher education options including degree level qualifications in a range of subjects including digital leadership, law, business studies, social sciences and nursing. Fees for the private schools are generally lower than the UK as are the fees for higher education degree courses.

There is an abundance of extra-curricular activities in the Island with everything from dance schools to surf schools and rugby and cricket academies. There are also bands, orchestras and choirs for every musical ability and preference, and fine and dramatic arts groups. For those who prefer less structure, the safe and secure countryside and beaches mean children can play freely in the fresh air.

GPs are usually able to offer same day appointments, most prescriptions are free of charge, as is hospital treatment and mental health services, should these be necessary. If you prefer to access healthcare privately this is also available with private hospital suites for your inpatient needs.

For patients needing urgent treatment that cannot be delivered in Jersey, there are immediate transfers to specialist hospitals in the UK as part of Jersey’s reciprocal health agreement.
