In 2011, Jake Shaw moved the headquarters of his on-line business to Jersey, before later moving over himself, because he could see the Island was home to a business friendly, thriving e-commerce community, with an established fulfilment service industry.

Company director at Euraco Group, Jake explains:

“We began our on-line retailing business in the UK, selling fancy dress clothing.  We knew it made sound business sense to move our operation to Jersey as our competitors had and, when we moved, we were able to tap into an established, experienced and skilled infrastructure. We needed to deliver our goods quickly and cost effectively to our European and North American markets and, by using local providers, we were able to do this successfully”.

“I first discovered the Locate Jersey team, as a result of a conversation with a trust company with which I was dealing.  After an initial meeting, the team was able to guide me through the process of compiling a comprehensive business plan.  This plan was presented to the Island’s regulatory authorities, as part of our application for a business licence.  All the authorities I have dealt with on the Island –from the tax office, to social security; from the health department to the team at the Back to Work initiative – have been extremely accommodating, efficient and supportive of both my business and of me on a personal level.”

“Since establishing Euraco Group in Jersey, we have expanded our business substantially and diversified into other on-line retailing areas, such as computer accessories; tools; pet care; beauty and toys! This growth has been fully supported by the Locate Jersey team, which has continued to offer advice and support as our business has altered and expanded.  We now work from a 10,000 square ft warehouse situated on the East of the Island, where we employ 12 staff.

I can genuinely say that the authorities in Jersey work with, and are in support of, local businesses.  For example, when we were seeking additional operations staff, a representative from the employment department visited us to ascertain our needs.  This meant that they had an excellent understanding of the type of candidate we were seeking and the department was better able to assist us in finding the right fit for our vacancy.  In fact, we filled two vacancies shortly after and these staff remain in those positions today.”
