Sometimes, the move to Jersey is not just about your business.
Andrew Benitz, CEO of Jersey Oil and Gas, chose Jersey as the platform for his rapidly growing natural resources business focused on the North Sea, but ultimately made the move for his family:
“Lifestyle was one of the key reasons we ended up here in Jersey, particularly as I was moving with my family. The work-life balance is really attractive, and the schooling options for young children are excellent, and that’s made the move for my family so much better.
Ultimately, choosing Jersey was not just a business decision, it was a family one. Moving here requires you to buy in to the concept of Jersey as a lifestyle choice, and for us it was the right stage of life to make the change to Jersey."
Jersey Oil and Gas is an independent oil and gas company, focused on the exploration and production of oil and gas through sites in the North Sea.
“We’ve been headquartered in Jersey for a few years now. I’ve got a background in natural resources, and that experience helped me identify that the market conditions and timing were right to launch a new oil and gas company. So together with some associates, we decided to look into our options, and Jersey came up as a credible potential location for our new headquarters.
I’d previously been in London and Spain before that, so the prospect of a move to Jersey was quite an interesting one. We were fortunate though that another founding director was already based in Jersey. That meant that, as a business, we had some useful familiarity with the landscape.
Locate Jersey were clearly supportive of our industry and pointed us in the right direction locally to help establish ourselves in the island. Particularly impressive was the follow-up support we received from them after our move. Relocating to a new environment can be stressful, and that sort of sustained support from a government body is rare and shouldn’t be underestimated.
As well as Jersey offering a familiar British environment, the support network here is excellent. Not only have we had some really positive engagement with the government and regulator, we’ve been really impressed with the local business infrastructure and service providers.
Jersey is giving us a good platform for growth, but it’s only the start of our journey. Our ambition is to grow into a mid-size North Sea player, right here from Jersey. That will undoubtedly mean more career opportunities for local people with specialist industry knowledge and expertise.”
