Established in Guernsey, brand and design agency, The Potting Shed Design found itself with an increasing number of clients with offices in both islands so decided to launch an additional base, in Jersey.
Ed Prow, managing director explains: “With our clients increasingly asking us to work with them across their Channel Island operations, we were undertaking a great deal of travel backwards and forwards between the two Islands and so it made increasing sense for us to establish an office in both locations.
One of our non-executive directors, with experience of working in Jersey, suggested that we contact the team at Locate Jersey, as he felt they would be able to help guide us through our set-up process. I can’t tell you how pleased I am that we had that conversation, as our journey could have been a very different one without their invaluable assistance!
Setting up an office on an Island in which you are not resident obviously doesn’t come without its challenges. There are regulatory processes which must be undertaken, in order to maintain the highly respected integrity of the Island’s authorities – we have welcomed these high standards, as they only reflect well on our business within the international arena.
Having the team at Locate Jersey on hand to guide us step-by-step through this process has made, what could have been a tricky road to navigate, a fascinating experience instead! We have found their helpful, positive approach utterly refreshing. That sort of positivity rubs off and a by-product of their support has been that they have given us even greater confidence in our business model.
Once our office was opened in Jersey, our client base quickly began to grow, which consequently led to further expansion of our business operations. The Locate Jersey team has continued to be on hand to assist us with bringing these expansion plans to fruition.
In a short period of time, we have forged many professional collaborations between Guernsey and Jersey and we are looking forward to growing these relationships further in the future. Our clients, especially those based in the UK, the Middle East and across Asia, seem to react very favourably to us having a broad Channel Island base.
In terms of staffing our offices, members of both our teams travel backwards and forwards between the two Islands. Many of us are surfing fanatics and there are few places in the world as fabulous as St Ouen’s Bay in Jersey, when the surf is rolling in. We have managed to negotiate keeping some surfboards in our Jersey office director’s garage, so that we can head out for a surf at the end of a busy day! Being able to make the most of opportunities like that is what life’s all about!”
