Under Jersey law, you must have a business licence to be self employed in the Island. Normally you need to have lived in the Island for more than 5 years and have Entitled for Work status in order to be eligible for that business licence. However, there is an exception to this if you can meet the Skilled High Earner criteria.

Local legislation or regulatory requirements, business activities, external markets, your business and personal reputation and track record and any other relevant factors will also be taken into account as part of the consideration.

As part of the Business Licence application you are also able to apply for Licensed status (initially granted for a period of 5 years after which it will be reviewed). This permission allows you to work in your business and own/occupy Qualified property (valued at over £2m).
