Jersey’s Chief Minister meets Israel’s President during Globes Israel Business Conference

​Jersey’s Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst met with Israel’s President Shimon Peres, during Israel’s leading economic conference this week.  

The Chief Minister was speaking at the Globes Israel Business Conference to highlight the role Jersey has to play in supporting global investment opportunities.

During the government-led trade visit to Israel (6th – 10th December), organised by Locate Jersey, Senator Gorst participated in a plenary session at the annual Globes Israel Business Conference in Tel Aviv. 

The Conference is the leading economic event in Israel and each year brings together Israel's political leaders, key business players, academics, diplomats and entrepreneurs. Senator Gorst was joined on his panel session, entitled ‘The Global Financial Context - in Search of the Best Investment Opportunities’, by Dr. Josef Ackermann, Former CEO of Deutsche Bank; Liqun Jin, Chairman of the China International Capital Corporation; Dr Edward Lewis Morse, Global Head of Commodities Research at Citigroup in New York; Janet Tavakoli, President of Tavakoli Structured Finance; Amir Bramly, CEO and Chairman of Rubicon Business Group; and Shay Shalev, Capital Markets Editor of Israeli business newspaper Globes. 

With an introduction from Israel’s President Shimon Peres and addresses by Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD and Yair Lapid, Israel’s Minister of Finance, the two-day Conference was attended by more than 3,000 people from all over the world and addressed the key anticipated economic challenges in 2014.

In addition, the Jersey delegation attended a number of meetings in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, with members of the Knesset, officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economy, and representatives of the finance and business sectors.
